Brunswick Red Cross volunteer heads to Louisiana
BRUNSWICK — An American Red Cross volunteer from Brunswick is joining disaster relief efforts in Louisiana for Hurricane Laura and Tropical Depression Marco.
The Red Cross has more than 400 trained disaster workers at the ready — including Dan Sayner.
Sayner will serve as a shelter worker in Baton Rouge. He said the shifts are 24-7 and he’ll be helping prepare for the storm, doing things like putting up cots.
His flight left at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
“It’s an adventure. I mean, I was able to retire early at 50 so I like to give back and all these become an adventure,” Sayner said.
This isn’t Sayner’s first trip as a disaster relief volunteer.
In fact, he said he’s been on more than half a dozen volunteer efforts with the Red Cross, responding to storms like Hurricane Sandy back in 2012 and Hurricane Maria in 2017.
