A Caring Community Cupboard Christmas
A local food pantry is making Christmas wishes come true while they raise funds to stock their shelves.
Despite the storm, Caring Community Cupboard in Old Town is hosting their second annual basket raffle to raise funds to combat the rising food insecurity in the area.
“We have a lot of people that are working that still need help. With gas prices and food prices as high as they are, there are a lot of working folks who just need a little bit of help through the end of the month and we’re seeing more of those people come,” says Sue Curtis the Chair of Board of Directors at C.C.C.
Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3p.m. C.C.C. Is raffling off 30 gift baskets each with their own unique goodies inside.
Raffle tickets are a dollar a piece or eight tickets for five.
All proceeds made by the raffle go directly to the food pantry and according to Linda Bryant, the director of caring community cupboard, they’re looking to break last year’s record of $1,400.
“We have many wonderful gift baskets. Many of the local businesses as well as some caring individual who have created baskets. It’s really a great opportunity. There’s something here for everyone” says curtis.
Along with their regular food pantry services C.C.C is also collecting letters for Santa in their special mail box right outside the pantry.
“Right now, all it is it’s our shoppers that come in to see us every week, I’ve told them that if they have children twelve or under to write a letter to Santa… and I had people step up and tell me, ” you know when you get letters lets us know”, and I give them those letters and they fulfill their wishes.”
Bryant says if you’d like to support the organization, even if you can’t get out to the raffle, all donations are always welcomed whether it’s cash, food or just volunteering.
“Those that are able to give please give. It could be just a couple dollars. That means a lot because your couple of dollars could be someone else’s couple dollars” says Bryant.
If you’d like to donate or learn more Bryant says to message her or any of the volunteers on the Caring Community Cupboard Facebook page.
