Bangor Kenny U-Pull announces permanent closure

BANGOR — A Bangor used auto parts business has permanently closed.

Kenny U-Pull in Bangor announced their closure in a Facebook post on January 11. Customers say that the auto parts store had become a staple for motorists from around the state.

For Levant resident Clarence Colbath, the news of their departure came as a shock.

“I’m sorry to see them close,” said Colbath. “It’s gonna be a big cut back for a lot of people coming in here and getting parts, because they’re always busy.”

Kenny U-Pull has several stores across Canada, but this location was the only one in Maine.

According to the company website, customers were able to pick and remove their own replacement parts from used and damaged cars at an affordable cost.

The abrupt loss of this feature has led to frustrations for longtime customer Ray Thomas.

“The price of auto parts is gonna go right up through the roof because you have to pay somebody else to remove them versus removing it yourself, said Thomas. “It’s a big inconvenience.”

However, some Mainers say that their biggest concern is unused gift cards, which were only valid at the Bangor location.

“Some people, they have gift certificates and all for this place, I’m not exactly sure what’s going to happen on those. I feel bad for those people,” said Colbath. “It’s gonna be a big inconvenience.”

Kenny U-Pull has urged customers looking to sell their used cars to head to Aim Recycling, which is next door to the former business.

Company representatives declined to comment on the reason for the closure.
