Carmel fire destroys garage and vehicles
CARMEL — A homeowner in Carmel lost their garage and two vehicles in a fire on Friday.
Carmel Fire Chief Ralph Shaw says the call came in around 5:30 p.m. Friday night for a garage fire at 42 Kings Lane in Carmel that also involved a vehicle.
Fire officials say when they arrived on scene the garage and vehicle were fully engulfed in flames, as well as a snowmobile that was next to the garage.
All are a total loss.
Shaw says there could be a bigger danger this year for building fires due to rises in heating cost.
“The high price of oil and that, everybody’s using outlets and heat sources so, I mean, there’s a bigger danger this year than normal for us for building fires,” said Shaw.
No one was injured. The homeowner did try to extinguish the flames but was not successful. Chief Shaw says they believe the source of the fire was a drill battery that was charging but they are still investigating.
