Maine organizations offering free Christmas Trees
BELFAST — Some Maine businesses are helping to make holiday spending less stressful this year.
With inflation impacting the state, Plants Unlimited is making an effort to ease the burden of seasonal shopping.
The business has partnered with the Belfast Soup Kitchen to provide free Christmas trees to Mainers, and organizers say that locals are thankful for the support from the town.
“People are very thankful for the generosity of this community… I think a lot of people were not able to find trees or get a Christmas tree this year so they’re very thankful,” said Cherie Merrill, executive Director of the Belfast Soup Kitchen.
Belfast City Councilor Michael Hurley says that the donations provide needed relief to locals.
“If they have to decide between food, or heat, and a Christmas tree, it’s a pretty easy decision, so this is a great thing to be able to give them a tree,” said Hurley.
Plants Unlimited provided Belfast soup kitchen with 57 trees in total, but those seeking a free tree should hurry if they want to grab one before they’re gone.
