Patten gets grant for new library

PATTEN-The town of Patten is getting 3.9 million dollars to help build a new library.

The grant is part of the fiscal year 2023 government funding package.

Senator Susan Collins visited the town today to help celebrate.

The funding will help support the Friends of the Veteran’s Memorial Library to build a new library for the town of Patten and surrounding residents.

The library has been temporarily housed in the Lumberman’s Museum since 2020.

Prior to 2020, the library operated in a building that was constructed in 1848 as a Baptist church before being signed over to the town.

They say the new facility will provide more computer workshops for all age groups while also offering outdoor equipment to community members and tourists.

The friends group also hopes the new facility can host small nutrition and cooking classes to teach youth healthy habits.
