Skowhegan comes up with new way to celebrate craft beer
SKOWHEGAN — Skowhegan Craft Brew Bags have sold out and are on their way to beer tasters.
Because of public gathering restrictions put in place due to the coronavirus pandemic, the alternative to the in-person Skowhegan Craft Brew Fest this year is homemade brew bags containing local goods from various businesses in the area.
The fundraiser, held each year on Labor Day weekend, has created a lot of buzz and not just from the local area, said Main Street Skowhegan Executive Director Kristina Cannon.
“So in addition [to] a large group in southern Maine who are coming up to get their brew bags over the next couple days, we have 17 orders from out of state. So that’s great for the economy and great for the local region that we’ve got people coming in and, of course, safely visiting our state,” Cannon said.
Each bag contains 15 beers, along with food and some extra goodies.
In addition, there is a golden ticket that serves as the entry to a raffle for two VIP passes for next year’s brew festival.
Cannon said Main Street Skowhegan is considering doing it again in the future.
