What you need to know about the Common Ground Country Fair
The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association is holding its Common Ground Country Fair this weekend, and this is what you should know if attending.
When is the Common Ground Country Fair?
The fair will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at MOFGA’s Common Ground Education Center at 294 Crosby Brook Road in Unity. The fairgrounds will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Where can I find the Common Ground Country Fair schedule?
The fair features 1,000-plus exhibitors and speakers at more than 700 presentations over the three days, ranging from demonstrations on agriculture, livestock, food preservation and home crafts to musical performances, contradancing and eco-friendly building vendors. The Common Ground Country Fair schedule and list of vendors and exhibits can be found on MOFGA’s website.
How do I purchase tickets?
Tickets can be purchased online and cost $20 for adults and $15 for ages 65-plus and 13-17 years old. Children under 12 and people with disabilities are free, but tickets must be reserved.
Where should I park?
The fairgrounds have two main gates — the Rose Gate to the north and the Pine Gate to the south — and parking lots on each side. There’s typically a lot of traffic leading to the fair, especially in late morning and midday. To avoid traffic, you can ride a bike to the train or park for free in Thorndike or Unity and ride a train directly to the fairgrounds. The train from Thorndike leaves every half hour, and the train from Unity leaves every 45 minutes. The train schedule can be found on the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad’s website.
Are pets allowed at the Common Ground Country Fair?
Only certified service animals — dogs that are trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability — are allowed. Pets are prohibited from the fairgrounds.
