Bangor Mall Pokémon tournament
BANGOR — On January 14, Pokémon fans came together at the Bangor Mall to take part in a new annual tournament to celebrate the billion dollar franchise.
The event, hosted by the Bangor Comic and Toy Con and Galactic Comics and Collectibles, is both a competition and a place for newcomers to learn how to play the card-trading game.
Paul Eaton, event organizer and owner of Galactic Comics and Collectibles, says that the day is a great way to bring people together.
“We all love Pokémon here, and it’s a great thing to do for the community and I love seeing the turnout,” said Eaton. “Kids coming, kids learning to play, families getting together — I love to see how much it impacts the community of everyone coming and enjoying this.”
The grand prize for the tournament was a $100 gift card to Galactic Comics and Collectibles, but those at the event also took part in the trading tables and the general play sections.
Organizers say that the bi-monthly event may soon turn into a monthly tradition because of its growing popularity.
