Maine Jewelry & Art business prepares to close

BANGOR--Maine Jewelry & Art will be closing its doors after bringing beauty to downtown Bangor for the past dozen years.

“Covid was really difficult. A lot of people are not going out to shop anymore. And also where the inflation and all the problems trying to go food shopping and gas and oil, people are not buying the way they used to buy,” explained Maine Jewelry & Art co-owner Roxanne Munksgaard.

The retail market isn’t what it used to be which is why Roxanne Munksgaard, Amanda Coburn and Anne Reigstad have decided it’s time for a change at Maine Jewelry & Art in Bangor.

“Amanda has relocated and Anne and I are getting up there in years and we’d like to retire,” said Munksgaard.

That’s why Maine Jewelry & Art will be available online only beginning February 1, 2023, where all of the owners products already exist.

Not being able to shop in the brick and mortar business will be difficult for some like Donna Comstock.

“I will miss being able to come in and see all the beautiful things in here,” said Comstock. “I will miss being able to see, touch and feel that’s the kind of buyer I am.”

However, moving to an online store will allow the owners to try new opportunities.

“I’ve been asked to teach and I‘ve never had the time because of running a store,” stated Munksgaard. “I’ve also had people who have wanted to collaborate with me, other artists.”

Maine Jewelry & Art is hosting a last hurrah at the store this Thursday night from 5 to 7 p.m. food and drinks will be available and shoppers can enjoy 20 percent off their purchases.

“We all three were at the point where we were ready to do this online thing and we’re all looking forward to it actually,” added Munksgaard.
