Maple producers to hold event this fall

STATEWIDE – Maine Maple Sunday is not canceled this year and will be taking place this fall.

The annual spring event was supposed to be celebrated in March but the pandemic canceled the celebration of maple syrup.

The Maine Maple Producers Association said the event will now take place October 9 through the 11.

According to the president of the MMPA, Maine is the third largest producer in the country however the industry took a hard hit on sales from the pandemic.

“Producers have tried to innovate, going to internet sales and other online forms. But it’s been a rough year for producers,” said Scott Dunn, president of the Maine Maple Producers Association.

According to Dunn, it is preferable to have the celebration in the spring because the fall season is for pumpkins and apples.

Dunn said there will be in-person events and some virtual events to visit the state’s sugar houses.
