My Day to Play is Back

BANGOR — A museum in Maine is offering families with children living with sensory needs the opportunity to explore the world of science in a safe environment once again.

The Maine discovery museum has resumed its “My Day to Play” program.

Two Sundays a month the museum makes slight changes to its displays in order to accommodate those with special sensory needs.

Trudi Plummer, the director of education at the Maine discovery museum, says, “When we first started the program we walked around and tried to look at our environment and what is going on through the eyes of somebody who might have some sensory issues like noise sensitivity or light sensitivity. So what we do is very simple, we turn some lights off, we turn some flashing lights off, we turn the volume down on anything that makes noise in the museum”.

According to Plummer, the “My day to play” program is completely free for families and that there is no documentation or registration needed to attend.
