New multi-use trail opens in Bangor
BANGOR – People from the city of Bangor along with the Bangor Land Trust opened the new multi-use trail connecting Stillwater Avenue and Sylvan Road.
According to the president of the Bangor Land Trust, the goal was to make the trail more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly.
“If you have good partners and you’re persistent, then you can keep it going and I’m just so happy to finally have this open,” said Lucy Quimby, president of Bangor Land Trust.
The new path is 12 feet wide and half a mile long.
It starts at the end of Sylvan Road near Eastern Maine Community College’s Rangeley Hall and extends through the wooded area south of the Interstate 95 off-ramp, ending on Stillwater Avenue.
According to the director of parks and recreation, this new path will be known as Trail 5.
“It ultimately connects Cascade Park, through Saxl Park, Dorothea Dix campus, through Eastern Maine Community College, to Sylvan Road, and ultimately Stillwater Avenue and ultimately get to Essex Woods,” said Tracy Willette, director of Parks & Recreation.
The trail was partially paid for with money from the Maine Dept. of Transportation and the design was created by Woodard & Curran.
The trail is now open and an opportunity for people who live in the greater Bangor area to explore new paths.
