Lewiston murder suspect on the run
LEWISTON (WGME) — The search continues for a Lewiston murder suspect, who allegedly shot and killed the mother of his child.
The little girl is a year old.
The victim’s family says she was trying to get away from her alleged abuser.
“Natasha was a wonderful, wonderful girl. 19 years old.great mother. She spent a lot of time with her daughter,” said Timothy Boutin, who was Natasha Morgan’s stepfather.
Morgan’s family said she was trying to leave her allegedly abusive boyfriend — Jaquile Coleman — the suspect now charged with her murder.
The deadly shooting happened Friday outside Morgan’s mother’s house.
The family said she and her mother got here the same time Coleman was dropping off their baby girl for a birthday party.
Minutes later, Natasha was shot and killed in front of her mother and baby girl, who was not hurt.
“Once everything happened, a friend of the family was asked to take the baby into the house. The baby was brought into the house perfectly fine,” Boutin said.
Her aunt said Natasha told her about her allegedly abusive and controlling relationship the day before she was shot and killed. She said they started to plan her escape, which included a protection from abuse order. She was so brave and courageous.”
“She had her whole life ahead of her,” the aunt said. “She loved her daughter so much. She wanted to be a midwife. She wanted to help other mothers. She wanted to help herself.”
Natasha was a certified nursing assistant at an Auburn nursing home, where she worked with her mother and brother. Employees said they were shocked and saddened by the tragedy. They say Natasha was an amazing person and caregiver and that everyone there loved her.
The victim’s family said Coleman is from Alabama but also has connections in New York and Vermont.
They want justice for Natasha.
“I want him caught. Somebody out there knows who he is and where he is. We want justice for Natasha. Somebody say something, please,” Boutin said. “That baby has to grow up without knowing her mother. Don’t let him get away with it.”
