Scholarship funds raised in memory of Cpl. Eugene Cole
NORRIDGEWOCK — The community recently honored the life of Cpl. Eugene Cole of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, who was killed in the line of duty in April of 2018.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the annual Corporal Cole Memorial 5-K and Half Marathon were held virtually this year, with more than 100 people participating.
From April 16 to 23, runners took part anywhere from outdoors to inside on a treadmill.
While the location was different, the goal was the same.
“All the deputies here that work here, all the civilian employees, and people working in the jail, they all interacted with him on a regular basis, so he meant and still does to this day, he means the world to us,” said Chief Deputy Michael Mitchell.
All profits will be given to the Maine Community Foundation toward a scholarship fund in Cole’s name.
